Viridium Group is a leading life insurance consolidator and one of the five largest life insurers in Germany, with approximately 5 per cent market share.

The group comprises four life insurance companies: Proxalto Lebensversicherung, Entis Lebensversicherung, Heidelberger Lebensversicherung and Skandia Lebensversicherung. It also includes the reinsurer Viridium Rückversicherung, which reinsures biometric risks from Viridium’s life insurance companies and serves as the central counterparty for certain external reinsurance contracts. Key services, such as customer services, are centralised in service companies to leverage synergies and achieve economies of scale across the group.

History

Development of Viridium

Viridium Group was founded by Cinven and Hannover Re as Heidelberger Leben Group in 2014. That same year, Skandia Lebensversicherung was acquired, followed by Entis Lebensversicherung and Proxalto Lebensversicherung, formerly Generali Leben. To clearly distinguish group functions from the life insurance companies, the group has operated under the name Viridium Group with an independent brand identity since October 2016. As Germany’s leading life insurance consolidator, Viridium manages 3.4 million contracts and EUR 67 billion in assets as of end 2023.
